My most recent research programme is designed to examine possible linguistic sources to Proto-Japanese. The aim of the research is to present a clearer picture of the genesis of the Japanese language. I believe the oldest mythology might provide one of the clues to this enigma, besides the particular language groups that might have contributed to the formation of Japanese.

I am also continuing research of classical Japanese drama, especially the origins of its unique rhythm of hiranori. In my opinion, hiranori shows striking afinities with ancient Greek Homeric hexametric verse and I am eneavouring to find out if there might be a connection.

My translation activities encompass classical poetry, especially of the Heian period, also Heian prose (Taketori monogatari) and nō dramas.
